I played as part of the songwriter's showcase at Walburg tonight. I had intended to open with "Give Us This Day Our Honky Tonk," but accidentally launched into "Beer and Pretzels for Communion" instead. It went fine, but I'm pretty sure I played it the last time I was there.
Usually, I'm not overly fond of these song swaps. It means being on stage for nine songs, but only playing on three of them, plus having to wait for two songs before getting to play again. Makes it difficult to get any kind of flow with your song choices.
Tonight, however, I decided not to worry about flow. My last two songs were my two newest: "Caught Up Short Again" and "Shoulders and Soul." Nobody was expecting these serious topics, and they both went over to huge applause.
