Next I went to the Ruiz Library Branch to meet with the "Ukulele Support Group," including Anna, Leta, Mardi, Jack, Kevin, and Nancy. Anna and I got to rehearse our version of "Jackson" before a live audience. Looking forward to doing it at the AUS March meeting.
What a great day! John y Pablo played at the Barton Creek Farmers Market this morning. We had a great time, and I hope we get to do it again soon. At the Danny Fast Fingers show at Ross' Old Cafe, we saw the photo below of a young David Dunn. Paul and I ended the evening at a fantastic BBQ ad pickin' party for a friend to celebrate his birthday. A great ending to a great day.

Paul and I always enjoy performing at The Watercrest in Bryan, TX. The residents listen attentively, and they're always grateful.
My original plan to stay home and practice my bump-on-a-log impersonation changed when I heard Dodge the Bullet was playing at the One-2-One Club. This is one of my favorite venues in town because it truly focuses on LIVE MUSIC.
DTB was great, and after the show I decided I wanted to play some tonight, too. I mentioned the open mic at The Water Tank, and Lynette and David G. (Lynette & Lefty) decided they'd come, too. Even before all of this fun, it was a pretty good day. I started work on a new song inspired by Lynette called "The Girl with the Upright Bass." I also worked up a fairly rollicking version of an old standard, "Frankie and Johnnie." An 18-act open mic at Rover's topped off a wonderful weekend for me. People even came early, which meant I actually had an audience for the opening bit.
David Harbaugh visited yesterday, and we spent most of the time discussing recent songs and playing for each other. Saturday evening, we went to the Carousel Lounge to see a small uke/guitar/fiddle group, some belly dancers, and CLYDE. It was a great show. In my pursuit of playing new venues, I drove out to Norman's Crossing (near Hutto, TX) to play at an open mic hosted by Perry Savard, whom I met through my gigs in Walburg. It was a nice stage and sound system, but a lightly attended night.
Sat in with Smiledon (above) for the first four songs of the evening. It was really Paul's showcase, but we all came to back him up, and it was a great evening.
Started the evening at the new Antone's (Austin's home of the Blues) photographing Kathy Murray and her favorite "Kilowatt," Bill Jones who performed as special guests of Lavelle White of Miss Lavelle and the L Men. Just before Kathy and Bill took the stage, Miss Lavelle told me I was one of her favorite singers and sexy, too.
Drove back north to end the night at B.B. Rovers where The Better Halves were hosting the open mic. Got to play with David P. Dunn (a.k.a. "Buster Gutbucket") on the washtub bass, and a couple of songs with Jimmy Joe Natoli picking out lead. Posted the tongue-in-cheek image above on Facebook today, so I thought I should share it here, too. As I've said before, I may not call myself a good musician, but I'm definitely better than I was last year, and as long as I can keep saying that, I'll keep playing.
Managed to pull a two-fer tonight: first at NeWorlDeli (pictured above), followed by The Water Tank. Once again, Hot Pepper Tamale and Don't Dallas My Austin proved themselves to be two of my most popular songs.
Just realized my last post was over a week ago. Been fighting with a couple of unfinished songs that I can't quite get right. Or at least, I can't quite get them to what I want them to be.
