Brigitte London brought her labor of love, the Last Honky Tonk Music Series, back to Texas. She is working to establish at least one official venue in each of the 50 states. If anyone can do it, the Highwaywoman can.

I finally got to see Folk Uke perform, and I spoke with Amy Nelson for a long while after the show. I was looking over there merchandise table when I admitted that I'd written down the time wrong, so I got there about 40 minutes late. At first she offered to refund my cover cost, which I gallantly declined, then she gave me three free bumper stickers: "Folk Uke / shit makes the flowers grow."
![]() Second time to play at The Watercrest in Bryan with my good friend Paul Teneyuque. We had a great time, and the folks there were incredibly appreciative...again. Of course, for me it's a special treat because I get to perform for my mother and mother-in-law. As an extra bonus this time, my son Will was also there, and he snapped a few photos for us. It's a big room, but we had a near-capacity crowd. Lotsa fun. Performed today with Thickety Creek (Richard Leslie, David Harbaugh and myself) and Paul Teneyuque for the surprise birthday party for my neighbor and friend Tracy Potter. I think everybody had a great time, but the young man in the red shirt playing his air-guitar might have had more fun than anyone.
Sheri and I once visited Fort Parker shortly after we got married. Being something of a Texas history buff, I enjoyed it, but Sheri thought it was boring.
Our very different reactions became something of a running joke between us. For example, she once described a business meeting to me as "the most bored I've been since Fort Parker." Sometimes, I'd tease her by saying, "We always could go back to Fort Parker for our vacation." Last year, I celebrated our anniversary (my first May 5 without Sheri) by taking Will to Huntsville to show him where I met his mom, the different places we lived, and of course, the garden spot in the town park where we exchanged our wedding vows. With Will gone to college now, I had almost talked myself out of doing anything this year when, from out of the blue, the thought crossed my mind just as clearly as if Sheri was whispering it in my ear: Now, you can go back to Fort Parker. |
