Our very different reactions became something of a running joke between us. For example, she once described a business meeting to me as "the most bored I've been since Fort Parker." Sometimes, I'd tease her by saying, "We always could go back to Fort Parker for our vacation."
Last year, I celebrated our anniversary (my first May 5 without Sheri) by taking Will to Huntsville to show him where I met his mom, the different places we lived, and of course, the garden spot in the town park where we exchanged our wedding vows. With Will gone to college now, I had almost talked myself out of doing anything this year when, from out of the blue, the thought crossed my mind just as clearly as if Sheri was whispering it in my ear: Now, you can go back to Fort Parker.
