The Watercrest at Bryan suffered water damage in its main dining room after a pipe burst in the ceiling. Judy called me to cancel this month's show, but said they should have the problem fixed in a couple weeks.

What a great night at Twin Creeks! Kaye Pasa Trio played two hour-long sets to a wonderful crowd.
If you look closely in the top photo, you can see all my little soldiers surrounding me. I'm playing my 12er, my cuatro is hanging on the mic stand in front of me, and the neck of my brand new tenor uke is angling up and left of the cuatro. My six-string guitar is resting on a stand between Kaye and me, and the face of my banjo is visible behind Kaye's feet. Finally made it to Alan "Bones" Davis' annual pig roast. Kaye Pasa Trio opened the evening, AND this marks the first time I ever played a banjo in public. It's almost the first time I ever played a banjo period; I only started playing it along with a recording of Kaye's "Build a Road" three days ago, and here I am playing it in front of an audience. Great fun.
Three grueling hours of playing well, sounding good, but being unable to connect with the crowd because they all sat at the bar with their backs to the stage. Very frustrating.
I played "She Won't Rock My Wagon Wheel Anymore" for the 150 or so uke fans, and they loved it. Must try to get this one added into the KPT songbook.
Organized by Walburg's Mike Mathis and Charlie Bishop, the Guy Clark tribute was fun. Of course, I knew most of the songs being performed, and sang along with many of them, but when it was my turn to play "Worry B Gone," I completely forgot to do the last verse.
A little live rehearsal at Hardtail's open mic (hosted by Bob Case) to get ready for our three-hour gig coming up Friday at Stompin Grounds.
Saturday (Nov 4) was the final show of The Kaye Pasa Trio's summer residency at The Hole in the Wall. Apparently, nobody remembered to mention that summer was over several weeks ago.
We had a lot of fun performing at this iconic Austin venue, and hope to be back next summer. |
