Last night between sets, Jack Pledge let me do a quick song (The Do-Nuthin' Congress) after we'd all slipped away to the liquor store next door for a free shot of tequila and a pair of free sunglasses. The tequila told us to leave the tag on the lens, ala Minnie Pearl's hat.

I don't always play my 12-string guitar. For instance, last night I performed at a uke-only open mic at the Rattle Inn downtown. Several of my fellow Austin Ukulele Society pals were there, including Bob Guz, Jen Richardson, Mardi Wareham, Ray Carr, and the fabulously talented wife and husband duo, Kathy Murray and Bill Jones.
Although I'd practiced several cover tunes at home, I decided at the last moment to do a couple of original songs: Hot Pepper Tamale and All Hat and No Cattle. It was the first time for me to perform these songs in public on my cuatro (a Venezuelan uke). A personal record: I saw four different bands at four different venues today. The Better Halves at the Barton Creek Mall Farmers' Market; Danny Fast Fingers (with Paul Teneyuque on bass) at Ginny's Longhorn Saloon, Kathy and the Kilowatts at the Lone Star Court in the Domain, and the Judith Miller Jazz Trio at B.B. Rover's Cafe & Pub. Tomorrow, I get to go back to BBR to host the open mic night.
Paul and I had a great time performing for the folks at The Watercrest in Bryan today. I think this marks our fourth time there in five months.
I never thought an Austin boy could have so much fun in in the suburbs of Dallas, but I did last night at Los Lalo's in Plano, TX. Got to see the rest of Thickety Creek, plus other old friends, and hopefully, a new friend or two.
Performed at BB Rover's open mic night (thank you, Wayne, for hosting) with a lot of family in attendance. It was the last night of our Cousins Weekend 2014. Lots fun.
