Saw the always entertaining Jezebel Jones last night at Austin's favorite speakeasy, The Firehouse. The club itself hides behind a fake bookshelf, and it helps to know the secret password to get in. The speakeasy atmosphere worked especially well last night because of the 1920s-themed costume party.
Jezebel and her partner PH switched seamlessly from guitar to ukulele throughout the set. She played a few songs from her album, Queen of the Devil's Rodeo and a couple of interesting covers: "(I've Got Spurs That) Jingle Jangle Jingle" with lyrics tweaked for a female perspective, and a delightfully dark version of "This Little Light of Mine" played in a minor key.
Atlas Maior was next, and their modern fusion of jazz and Middle Eastern-influenced music provided the perfect swirling soundtrack to the rest of the evening. Sort of like being in a movie montage.
The whole show benefited the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity.
